Indications:
Alphapress XR is indicated for the treatment of hypertension (high blood pressure). It helps in lowering blood pressure and reducing the risk of cardiovascular events such as stroke and myocardial infarction.
Pharmacology:
Alphapress XR contains Prazosin, an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist. It works by relaxing blood vessels, which lowers peripheral vascular resistance and blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration:
Initial dose: 1 mg twice daily, gradually increased based on response.
Maintenance dose: 2.5 mg once or twice daily (extended release form).
Take with or without food, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
May interact with other antihypertensive drugs, beta-blockers, diuretics, and PDE-5 inhibitors. Use caution to avoid hypotension.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Prazosin or any components. Caution in patients with severe coronary artery disease or orthostatic hypotension.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, palpitations, and orthostatic hypotension. First dose may cause sudden drop in blood pressure.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Limited data on excretion in breast milk; caution advised.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor blood pressure regularly, especially after initial dose or dose adjustments. Avoid sudden position changes to prevent dizziness.
