Orcef 400 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of infections such as:
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis
Acute sinusitis
Otitis media
Acute bronchitis and chronic bronchitis exacerbation
Community-acquired pneumonia
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
Uncomplicated gonorrhea
Orcef contains Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell death. It is stable against many beta-lactamases, offering efficacy against a wide range of Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
As prescribed by a registered physician.
Usual adult dose: 400 mg once daily or 200 mg every 12 hours depending on severity and type of infection.
To be taken orally with or without food. Swallow the tablet whole with a full glass of water. Maintaining a consistent schedule is advised for effectiveness.
May increase serum levels of carbamazepine
May alter prothrombin time when used with anticoagulants
May reduce the effectiveness of oral contraceptives
Caution with nephrotoxic drugs like aminoglycosides
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillin-class antibiotics
Severe allergic reaction to beta-lactam antibiotics in patient history
Common: Diarrhea, nausea, gas, abdominal pain
Less common: Skin rash, dizziness, headache
Rare: Severe allergic reaction, pseudomembranous colitis, liver enzyme elevation
Pregnancy Category B — Animal studies show no risk; limited data in humans. Use only if clearly needed and under physician supervision.
Use cautiously in patients with kidney disease
Stop treatment immediately if allergic symptoms or persistent diarrhea occur
Not effective for viral infections like flu
