Indications:
Normens is indicated for the treatment of hypertension and chronic stable or vasospastic angina.
Pharmacology:
Normens contains Amlodipine, a long-acting dihydropyridine calcium channel blocker. It inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, resulting in vasodilation and reduced blood pressure.
Dosage & Administration:
Usual adult dose: 5 mg once daily; may be increased to 10 mg if needed.
Can be taken with or without food, preferably at the same time daily.
Dose adjustment may be required in elderly or hepatic impairment.
Interaction:
May interact with other antihypertensives, CYP3A4 inhibitors (e.g., ketoconazole), grapefruit juice, and simvastatin. Monitoring is recommended.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Amlodipine or other dihydropyridines. Severe hypotension, cardiogenic shock, or heart failure after acute MI.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include peripheral edema, headache, dizziness, flushing, and fatigue. Rarely, gingival hyperplasia and arrhythmias may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Should be used during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution advised during breastfeeding as data on human excretion is limited.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with heart failure or hepatic impairment. Gradual dose titration is recommended. Avoid abrupt withdrawal.
Therapeutic Class:
Calcium channel blockers – dihydropyridine group.
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 30°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
