Indications:
Maxpro EC is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Pharmacology:
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system of gastric parietal cells.
Dosage & Administration:
Recommended dose is 40 mg once daily, preferably 1 hour before meals. Capsules should be swallowed whole without chewing or crushing.
Interaction:
May interact with ketoconazole, clopidogrel, warfarin, and drugs that require acidic pH for absorption.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Esomeprazole or other PPIs.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal discomfort. Rare cases of hypersensitivity reactions reported.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed; exercise caution during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term use may cause vitamin B12 deficiency and increased fracture risk. Monitor for gastrointestinal infections.
