Indications:
Maxpro EC is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Pharmacology:
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system in gastric parietal cells, leading to increased gastric pH.
Dosage & Administration:
Recommended dose is 40 mg once daily, preferably 1 hour before meals. The enteric-coated tablet should be swallowed whole and not crushed or chewed.
Interaction:
May interact with ketoconazole, clopidogrel, warfarin, and drugs requiring acidic gastric pH for absorption.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Esomeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, nausea, diarrhea, and abdominal pain. Rare hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed; caution advised during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term use may cause vitamin B12 deficiency and increased risk of fractures. Monitor for gastrointestinal infections.
