Indications:
Maxpro EC is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Pharmacology:
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor that blocks the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme in gastric parietal cells, leading to decreased gastric acid secretion.
Dosage & Administration:
The recommended dose is 20 mg once daily, preferably 1 hour before meals. The enteric-coated capsule should be swallowed whole without chewing.
Interaction:
May interact with ketoconazole, clopidogrel, warfarin, and drugs requiring acidic pH for absorption.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients hypersensitive to Esomeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, and diarrhea. Rarely, serious hypersensitivity reactions may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed; exercise caution during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term use may cause vitamin B12 deficiency and increase risk of bone fractures. Monitor for gastrointestinal infections.
