Indications:
Maxpro is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, gastric ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Pharmacology:
Esomeprazole is a proton pump inhibitor (PPI) that suppresses gastric acid secretion by inhibiting the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system at the secretory surface of gastric parietal cells.
Dosage & Administration:
The usual adult dose is 20-40 mg once daily before a meal. The dose and duration depend on the condition being treated. Capsules should be swallowed whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs like ketoconazole, clopidogrel, warfarin, and digoxin. Avoid concomitant use with drugs that require acidic gastric pH for absorption.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Esomeprazole or other PPIs.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, diarrhea, nausea, and abdominal pain. Rarely, serious allergic reactions or liver dysfunction may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly needed. Caution is advised during lactation.
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency or bone fractures. Monitor patients for symptoms of gastrointestinal infections.
