ABACLOR 100 ML Suspension is indicated for the treatment of infections such as otitis media, pharyngitis, tonsillitis, lower respiratory tract infections (including bronchitis), urinary tract infections, and skin & soft tissue infections in children.
Cefaclor is a second-generation cephalosporin antibiotic. It works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to cell lysis and death. It is effective against a broad spectrum of Gram-positive and some Gram-negative organisms.
Dosage should be determined by a registered physician. Typically, in children, the dose ranges from 20-40 mg/kg/day divided into 2 or 3 doses depending on the severity and type of infection.
Administer orally, preferably after meals. Shake the bottle well before each use to ensure proper suspension.
Cefaclor's serum concentration may increase with probenecid. Antacids may reduce absorption. Concurrent use with oral anticoagulants (like warfarin) may increase bleeding risk.
Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to cefaclor or other cephalosporins.
Common side effects include nausea, diarrhea, abdominal discomfort, and rash. Rarely, hypersensitivity reactions like anaphylaxis may occur.
Use during pregnancy and lactation only if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician. Limited data suggest low risk.
Use with caution in patients with a history of allergy to penicillins or cephalosporins. Prolonged use may result in overgrowth of non-susceptible organisms, including fungi.
