Indications:

Avloclav 625 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, including upper and lower respiratory tract infections (e.g., sinusitis, pneumonia, bronchitis), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections.

Pharmacology:

Avloclav contains Amoxicillin, a semisynthetic penicillin, which inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, and Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor, which protects Amoxicillin from degradation by beta-lactamase enzymes. This synergy allows the drug to act against a wider spectrum of pathogens.

Dosage:

As prescribed by a registered physician. Standard adult dosage: 1 tablet (625 mg) every 8–12 hours, depending on the severity of the infection.

Administration:

Take orally at the start of a meal to reduce gastrointestinal side effects and enhance absorption. Swallow the tablet whole with water. Do not crush or chew.

Interaction:

Interactions may occur with allopurinol (increased risk of rash), oral contraceptives (reduced efficacy), methotrexate (increased toxicity), and anticoagulants (increased INR). Probenecid may increase Amoxicillin levels by decreasing renal excretion.

Contraindications:

Contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to beta-lactam antibiotics, such as penicillins and cephalosporins. Also contraindicated in patients with previous liver dysfunction or jaundice related to this combination.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include nausea, vomiting, diarrhea, skin rash, and abdominal discomfort. Rarely, hepatotoxicity, cholestatic jaundice, or allergic reactions such as anaphylaxis may occur.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Category B — Safe during pregnancy and lactation when clearly needed and under medical supervision.

Precautions & Warnings:

Use with caution in patients with liver or kidney impairment. Monitor liver function during prolonged use. Discontinue immediately if signs of allergy or liver dysfunction appear.

Therapeutic Class:

Penicillins with beta-lactamase inhibitors

Storage Conditions:

Store below 25°C in a dry place. Protect from moisture and light. Keep out of reach of children.
