Cefim-3 DS 400 mg Capsule is indicated for the treatment of:
Acute bronchitis and exacerbation of chronic bronchitis
Community-acquired pneumonia
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis
Otitis media
Acute sinusitis
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections
Uncomplicated gonorrhea
caused by susceptible Gram-positive and Gram-negative bacteria.
Cefixime is a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic that acts by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis. It is bactericidal and stable against many beta-lactamase enzymes, offering a broad spectrum of action against pathogens resistant to penicillins and first-line cephalosporins.
As directed by a registered physician.
Usual adult dose: 400 mg once daily or 200 mg every 12 hours for 5–10 days depending on the infection.
Take orally with or without food. Swallow the capsule whole with water. Taking it at the same time daily helps maintain effective blood levels.
May elevate carbamazepine levels
May alter INR when taken with anticoagulants
Reduces effectiveness of oral contraceptives
May interact with nephrotoxic medications (e.g., aminoglycosides)
Hypersensitivity to cephalosporins or penicillins
Severe allergic reaction history to beta-lactam antibiotics
Common: Diarrhea, flatulence, nausea, abdominal pain
Rare: Rash, elevated liver enzymes, pseudomembranous colitis, serum sickness-like reaction, anaphylaxis
Category B — No evidence of harm in animal studies. Should be used in pregnancy and lactation only when clearly needed under physician supervision.
Use with caution in renal impairment
Discontinue if severe allergic reactions or prolonged diarrhea occur
Not effective against viral infections like flu or common cold
Third-generation cephalosporins
