Indications:
Fluclox is indicated for:
Skin and soft tissue infections (e.g., cellulitis, impetigo)
Respiratory tract infections (e.g., pneumonia, bronchitis)
Bone and joint infections
Septicaemia and other serious infections caused by penicillin-sensitive bacteria
Pharmacology:
Flucloxacillin is a beta-lactamase-resistant penicillin antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults: Typically 250-500 mg every 6 hours, depending on infection severity.
Capsules should be swallowed whole with water, preferably on an empty stomach.
Duration of therapy depends on the infection and clinical response.
Interaction:
May interact with oral anticoagulants, reducing their effectiveness.
Use caution with other antibiotics and probenecid.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to penicillins or beta-lactam antibiotics
History of severe allergic reactions to penicillin
Side Effects:
Gastrointestinal disturbances (nausea, diarrhea)
Allergic reactions (rash, itching, anaphylaxis in rare cases)
Hepatic enzyme elevation (rare)
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Generally considered safe in pregnancy and lactation but consult physician before use.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for allergic reactions
Use with caution in patients with renal impairment
Complete full course to prevent resistance
