Abetis 10 mg is indicated for:
Type 2 diabetes mellitus (non-insulin-dependent diabetes)
As monotherapy or in combination with other oral antidiabetic agents or insulin, when diet and exercise alone are not sufficient
Glipizide is a second-generation sulfonylurea that lowers blood glucose by stimulating insulin release from pancreatic beta cells. It may also enhance peripheral insulin sensitivity over time. It is rapidly absorbed and has a relatively short duration of action.
As prescribed by a registered physician.
Typical initial dose: 2.5–5 mg daily, taken before breakfast.
Maximum daily dose: 40 mg in divided doses.
Take orally 30 minutes before a meal. Swallow whole with water. Regular meal schedule is important to avoid hypoglycemia.
Increased hypoglycemic effect with alcohol, beta-blockers, NSAIDs, and other antidiabetics
Decreased effect with corticosteroids, diuretics, and thyroid hormones
May mask signs of low blood sugar when taken with beta-blockers
Type 1 diabetes mellitus
Diabetic ketoacidosis
Severe liver or kidney impairment
Hypersensitivity to Glipizide or sulfonylureas
Common: Hypoglycemia, nausea, headache, dizziness
Less common: Allergic skin reactions, gastrointestinal discomfort
Rare: Hepatic dysfunction, blood disorders (e.g., leukopenia)
Not recommended during pregnancy. Insulin is preferred. Avoid use while breastfeeding unless specifically advised by a doctor.
Risk of hypoglycemia increases with missed meals or overdose
Use cautiously in elderly, malnourished, or renal/hepatic-impaired patients
Monitor blood glucose and HbA1c regularly
