Indications:

Avloclav 1g Tablet is indicated for the treatment of moderate to severe bacterial infections such as sinusitis, pneumonia, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections caused by beta-lactamase-producing organisms.

Pharmacology:

Avloclav contains Amoxicillin, a penicillin-class antibiotic that inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, and Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor that prevents the degradation of Amoxicillin by resistant bacteria. This combination extends the spectrum of activity against beta-lactamase-producing pathogens.

Dosage:

As prescribed by a registered physician. The usual adult dose is one tablet (Amoxicillin 875 mg + Clavulanic Acid 125 mg) every 12 hours for 5–10 days depending on infection severity.

Administration:

Should be taken with a meal to improve absorption and reduce gastrointestinal side effects. Swallow whole with water. Do not crush or chew.

Interaction:

May interact with allopurinol (rash), anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), methotrexate (reduced clearance), and oral contraceptives (reduced effectiveness). Probenecid may increase Amoxicillin levels.

Contraindications:

Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins, or any component of the formulation. Not recommended in patients with history of hepatic dysfunction associated with this combination.

Side Effects:

Possible side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, skin rash, candidiasis. Rarely may cause liver dysfunction, cholestatic jaundice, or severe allergic reactions.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Classified as Category B. Generally safe during pregnancy and breastfeeding, but should be used under medical supervision.

Precautions & Warnings:

Caution is advised in patients with hepatic or renal impairment. Monitor liver enzymes in prolonged use. Discontinue if signs of hypersensitivity or liver dysfunction appear.

Therapeutic Class:

Penicillins with beta-lactamase inhibitors

Storage Conditions:

Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
