Indications:
Flamex 400 mg Tablet is indicated for relief of signs and symptoms of osteoarthritis, rheumatoid arthritis, ankylosing spondylitis, gout, and other musculoskeletal disorders. It is also used to treat mild to moderate pain and dysmenorrhea.
Pharmacology:
Naproxen is a nonsteroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID) that works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX-1 and COX-2) enzymes, resulting in decreased formation of prostaglandins involved in pain, inflammation, and fever.
Dosage:
Adults: 250–500 mg twice daily or as prescribed.
Dosage should be individualized according to the severity of the condition and patient response.
Administration:
Should be taken orally with food or milk to reduce gastrointestinal irritation. Swallow tablets whole with water.
Interaction:
May interact with anticoagulants, other NSAIDs, corticosteroids, antihypertensives, and lithium. Increased risk of gastrointestinal bleeding when combined with aspirin or corticosteroids.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Naproxen, active peptic ulcer disease, recent gastrointestinal bleeding, severe heart failure, and during the third trimester of pregnancy.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include gastrointestinal discomfort, nausea, heartburn, dizziness, and headache. Serious side effects include gastrointestinal bleeding, ulceration, renal impairment, and hypersensitivity reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Avoid during the third trimester of pregnancy. Use with caution in lactating mothers as Naproxen is excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding or ulceration. Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular disease, hypertension, renal or hepatic impairment. Avoid long-term use without medical supervision.
