Avloclav is indicated for the treatment of bacterial infections in children, including respiratory tract infections (e.g. sinusitis, otitis media), urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections.
Avloclav contains Amoxicillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, and Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Amoxicillin interferes with bacterial cell wall synthesis, while Clavulanic Acid protects Amoxicillin from enzymatic degradation by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, enhancing its effectiveness.
As directed by a physician. Typical pediatric dose: 20–40 mg/kg/day of Amoxicillin in divided doses every 8–12 hours depending on infection severity and type.
To be administered orally. Shake well before use. Best taken at the start of a meal to enhance absorption and minimize gastrointestinal discomfort.
May interact with allopurinol (increased risk of rash), oral contraceptives (reduced efficacy), and anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk). Probenecid delays renal excretion of Amoxicillin.
Hypersensitivity to penicillins or any component of the formulation. History of cholestatic jaundice or hepatic dysfunction associated with this combination.
Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, vomiting, rash. Rarely, it may cause liver dysfunction, allergic reactions, or Clostridium difficile-associated diarrhea.
Generally considered safe in pregnancy and lactation but should only be used under medical supervision.
Use with caution in patients with hepatic impairment or history of allergic reactions to penicillin. Monitor liver function during prolonged therapy.
