Atasin 10 mg is indicated for:
Hypercholesterolemia (high cholesterol)
Mixed dyslipidemia (high cholesterol and triglycerides)
Prevention of cardiovascular events in high-risk patients
Familial hypercholesterolemia
Stroke and heart attack prevention
Atorvastatin is a selective, competitive inhibitor of HMG-CoA reductase, the enzyme responsible for converting HMG-CoA to mevalonate, a precursor of cholesterol. It reduces total cholesterol, LDL-C, Apo-B, and triglycerides, and increases HDL-C.
As prescribed by a registered physician.
Usual starting dose: 10 mg once daily.
Maintenance dose: 10–80 mg daily depending on patient profile and target lipid levels.
Can be taken with or without food. Take at the same time each day, preferably in the evening. Swallow the tablet whole with water.
Risk of myopathy increased with fibrates, niacin, and cyclosporine
May interact with digoxin, oral contraceptives, antacids
Grapefruit juice may increase blood levels of Atorvastatin
Active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes
Pregnancy and lactation
Hypersensitivity to Atorvastatin or any ingredient
Common: Muscle pain, joint pain, diarrhea, nausea
Less common: Liver enzyme elevation, insomnia, dizziness
Rare: Rhabdomyolysis, allergic reaction, pancreatitis
Contraindicated during pregnancy and breastfeeding. Cholesterol is essential for fetal development. Women of childbearing potential should use effective contraception.
Monitor liver function before and during treatment
Use with caution in patients with kidney impairment or history of liver disease
Report unexplained muscle pain or weakness immediately
Statins (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitors)
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
