Indications:

Avloclav 375 mg Tablet is indicated for the treatment of mild to moderate infections such as sinusitis, otitis media, bronchitis, urinary tract infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and dental infections caused by susceptible organisms.

Pharmacology:

This formulation combines Amoxicillin, a beta-lactam antibiotic, with Clavulanic Acid, a beta-lactamase inhibitor. Amoxicillin inhibits bacterial cell wall synthesis, while Clavulanic Acid protects Amoxicillin from enzymatic degradation by resistant bacteria.

Dosage:

As directed by a registered physician. Common dosage: One tablet every 8 hours for adults and adolescents, depending on the type and severity of infection.

Administration:

Take orally with meals to enhance absorption and reduce gastrointestinal discomfort. Swallow whole with a glass of water.

Interaction:

May interact with allopurinol (rash), oral contraceptives (reduced efficacy), anticoagulants (increased bleeding risk), and methotrexate (reduced clearance). Probenecid increases Amoxicillin levels.

Contraindications:

Contraindicated in patients with a history of hypersensitivity to penicillins, cephalosporins, or any ingredient in the formulation. Not to be used in patients with a history of hepatic dysfunction linked to this drug combination.

Side Effects:

Common side effects include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, skin rash, and oral thrush. Rare but serious effects: cholestatic jaundice, hepatic dysfunction, or anaphylaxis.

Pregnancy & Lactation:

Generally safe during pregnancy and lactation when prescribed. Should only be used under medical supervision.

Precautions & Warnings:

Use with caution in patients with renal or hepatic impairment. Monitor liver function in long-term use. Discontinue if allergic or hepatic symptoms appear.

Therapeutic Class:

Penicillins with beta-lactamase inhibitors

Storage Conditions:

Store in a cool and dry place below 25°C. Protect from light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
