Indications:
Abetis is indicated for the management of type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially when diet and exercise alone are insufficient to control blood glucose levels.
Pharmacology:
Abetis contains Pioglitazone, a thiazolidinedione class drug that improves insulin sensitivity by activating peroxisome proliferator-activated receptor gamma (PPAR-γ), enhancing glucose uptake in tissues.
Dosage & Administration:
Typical dose: 15-30 mg once daily, adjusted according to response.
Can be taken with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with insulin, rifampicin, gemfibrozil, and certain diuretics. Monitor blood glucose levels closely.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with heart failure, active liver disease, and hypersensitivity to Pioglitazone.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include weight gain, edema, upper respiratory tract infection, and headache. Rarely, hepatotoxicity and heart failure exacerbation may occur.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed during pregnancy. Excretion in breast milk is unknown; use caution during breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function tests and watch for signs of heart failure. Use cautiously in patients with cardiovascular risk.
Therapeutic Class:
Antidiabetic agents (Thiazolidinediones).
