Indications:
Used to treat anxiety disorders, panic attacks, and anxiety associated with depression.
Pharmacology:
Alprazolam is a benzodiazepine that enhances GABA neurotransmitter effects, calming the central nervous system.
Dosage:
Typically 0.5 mg taken three times daily, dosage adjusted per patient needs.
Administration:
Orally with water, tablets should not be crushed or chewed.
Interaction:
May interact with alcohol, CNS depressants, antifungals, and some antibiotics.
Contraindications:
Allergy to benzodiazepines, acute narrow-angle glaucoma, concurrent use with certain antifungals.
Side Effects:
Drowsiness, dizziness, fatigue, memory impairment, possible dependence.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if necessary; avoid breastfeeding during treatment.
