Indications:
PRODEP 20 MG is indicated for the treatment of major depressive disorder, obsessive-compulsive disorder (OCD), panic disorder, bulimia nervosa, and premenstrual dysphoric disorder (PMDD).

Pharmacology:
Fluoxetine is a selective serotonin reuptake inhibitor (SSRI). It enhances serotonergic activity by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin in the central nervous system. This leads to an increase in serotonin levels in the synaptic cleft, improving mood and emotional balance.

Dosage & Administration:

Depression: 20 mg once daily in the morning; may increase to 60 mg/day as needed.
OCD & Panic Disorder: Start with 20 mg/day; titrate based on response.
Bulimia Nervosa: 60 mg/day is typical.
PMDD: 20 mg/day continuously or during luteal phase.
Dose adjustments required in elderly or hepatic impairment.
Take orally with or without food.

Interaction:

May increase bleeding risk with NSAIDs, aspirin, or warfarin
Risk of serotonin syndrome with MAOIs, triptans, or other serotonergic agents
May increase plasma levels of TCAs, antipsychotics, and phenytoin
Avoid alcohol and CNS depressants

Contraindications:

Concomitant use with MAOIs or within 14 days of discontinuing MAOI
Known hypersensitivity to Fluoxetine
Use with pimozide or thioridazine

Side Effects:

Nausea, insomnia, dry mouth
Anxiety, dizziness, fatigue
Sexual dysfunction
Rare: Seizures, serotonin syndrome, suicidal thoughts in adolescents

Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during pregnancy only if clearly necessary. May cause withdrawal symptoms in the newborn. Fluoxetine is excreted in breast milk; caution advised during lactation.

Precautions & Warnings:

Monitor for worsening depression or suicidal ideation, especially in early treatment
Use with caution in patients with liver disease, seizure disorders, or bipolar disorder
Avoid abrupt discontinuation to reduce withdrawal symptoms
May impair judgment or motor skills—caution while driving
