Description
Olmezest AM 40 mg is a combination antihypertensive medication manufactured by Sun Pharmaceutical Industries Ltd. It contains two active ingredients: Olmesartan Medoxomil (40 mg), an angiotensin II receptor blocker (ARB), and Amlodipine (5 mg), a calcium channel blocker. Olmesartan works by blocking the effects of angiotensin II, a hormone that constricts blood vessels, thereby relaxing and widening blood vessels to lower blood pressure. Amlodipine inhibits calcium ion influx into vascular smooth muscle and cardiac muscle, leading to vasodilation and reduced peripheral vascular resistance. Together, these components effectively lower blood pressure and reduce the risk of cardiovascular events such as strokes and heart attacks. Olmezest AM 40 mg is typically prescribed when blood pressure is not adequately controlled with monotherapy or when combination therapy is deemed appropriate.
