Indications:
Used to treat high cholesterol, mixed dyslipidemia, and to prevent cardiovascular events.
Pharmacology:
Atorvastatin inhibits the HMG-CoA reductase enzyme, decreasing cholesterol synthesis in the liver.
Dosage:
Usually 20 mg once daily, dose adjusted as per clinical response.
Administration:
Take orally with or without food.
Interaction:
Can interact with certain antifungals, antibiotics, antivirals, and other lipid-lowering drugs.
Contraindications:
Liver disease, pregnancy, breastfeeding, allergy to statins.
Side Effects:
Muscle pain, headache, nausea, elevated liver enzymes, rare risk of rhabdomyolysis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function regularly; watch for muscle symptoms.
