Indications:
Dextac is indicated for:
Relief of non-productive (dry) cough
Cough due to throat or bronchial irritation
Temporary relief of cough associated with colds, flu, or inhaled irritants
Pharmacology:
Dextromethorphan is a synthetic derivative of morphine that acts on the cough center in the medulla to suppress the cough reflex. It does not produce analgesia or euphoria and has minimal sedative effects at therapeutic doses.
Dosage & Administration:
Adults and children over 12 years: 30 mg every 6–8 hours (maximum 120 mg/day)
Capsules should be swallowed whole with water
Not recommended for children under 12 unless prescribed
Best taken with or without food
Interaction:
Avoid concurrent use with MAO inhibitors (serotonin syndrome risk)
Use with caution when combined with SSRIs or other serotonergic drugs
Alcohol and other CNS depressants may enhance sedative effects
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Dextromethorphan
Concurrent use with or within 14 days of MAO inhibitors
Severe respiratory conditions (unless prescribed with caution)
Side Effects:
Common: Dizziness, nausea, mild drowsiness
Less common: GI discomfort, nervousness, confusion (in overdose)
Serious (rare): Serotonin syndrome when combined with serotonergic agents
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Generally considered safe during pregnancy (Category C) when used short term. Caution advised in lactation — consult physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Do not exceed recommended dose
Avoid in chronic cough associated with smoking, asthma, or emphysema without medical advice
Keep out of reach of children to prevent overdose
Not for long-term use unless prescribed

Storage Conditions:
Store below 25°C in a cool, dry place away from direct light and moisture. Keep out of reach of children.
