Duracef 200 mg Capsule contains Cefixime, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic produced by Navana Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It is used to treat a variety of bacterial infections, including:
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by E. coli and Proteus mirabilis
Otitis media caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pyogenes
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae
Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Typhoid fever (as part of combination therapy)
Cefixime works by inhibiting the synthesis of bacterial cell walls, leading to the death of the bacteria. It is effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The usual dosage for adults is 200–400 mg daily, either as a single dose or divided into two doses. For children over 12 years, the dosage is similar, adjusted based on body weight and the severity of the infection.
