Duracef 30 ml contains Cefixime Trihydrate, a third-generation cephalosporin antibiotic produced by Navana Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It is used to treat various bacterial infections, including:
Uncomplicated urinary tract infections caused by Escherichia coli and Proteus mirabilis
Otitis media caused by Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, and Streptococcus pyogenes
Pharyngitis and tonsillitis caused by Streptococcus pyogenes
Acute bronchitis and acute exacerbations of chronic bronchitis caused by Streptococcus pneumoniae and Haemophilus influenzae
Uncomplicated gonorrhea (cervical/urethral) caused by Neisseria gonorrhoeae
Cefixime works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial death. It is effective against a broad spectrum of gram-positive and gram-negative bacteria. The usual dosage for children is 8 mg/kg/day, either as a single dose or divided into two doses. For typhoid fever, the dosage is 10 mg/kg/day for 14 days. The reconstituted suspension should be stored in a cool, dry place, preferably in the refrigerator, and unused portions should be discarded after 14 days. Common side effects may include diarrhea, nausea, abdominal pain, and headache. It is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to Cefixime or other cephalosporins.
