Description
Diplin 5 mg Tablet contains Linagliptin, a medication classified as a Dipeptidyl Peptidase-4 (DPP-4) inhibitor. It is primarily used to manage type 2 diabetes mellitus in adults by improving glycemic control. Linagliptin works by inhibiting the DPP-4 enzyme, which leads to increased levels of incretin hormones such as GLP-1 and GIP. These hormones enhance insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells in a glucose-dependent manner and suppress glucagon release from alpha cells, thereby reducing hepatic glucose production. Diplin can be used alone (monotherapy) or in combination with other antidiabetic medications like metformin, sulfonylureas, or insulin when diet and exercise alone are insufficient. It is typically taken once daily, with or without food, and does not require dose adjustments for patients with renal or hepatic impairments. However, caution is advised when used with sulfonylureas due to the potential risk of hypoglycemia.
