Zenocin 10 gm Cream is a topical antibiotic formulation containing 1% w/w ozenoxacin, developed by Navana Pharmaceuticals Ltd. It is indicated for the treatment of impetigo, a superficial skin infection caused by Staphylococcus aureus or Streptococcus pyogenes, in adult and pediatric patients aged 2 months and older. Ozenoxacin, a quinolone antimicrobial agent, exerts its bactericidal effects by inhibiting bacterial DNA replication enzymes, DNA gyrase A and topoisomerase IV. This mechanism effectively targets the causative bacteria, promoting infection resolution. The cream should be applied as a thin layer to the affected area twice daily for five days. The treated area may be up to 100 cm² in adults and adolescents aged 12 years and older, or up to 2% of the total body surface area, not exceeding 100 cm², in pediatric patients under 12 years. Zenocin is for topical use only and should not be applied to the eyes, mouth, nose, or genital areas. Common side effects are rare but may include skin irritation or allergic reactions. Patients are advised to wash their hands after application and avoid covering the treated area with occlusive dressings unless directed by a healthcare professional.
