Indications:
DIATROL MR 30 mg is indicated for:

  • Management of Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus

  • Patients requiring long-acting glycemic control

  • Suitable when diet, exercise, and weight reduction alone are not sufficient

  • May be combined with other oral antidiabetics or insulin

Pharmacology:
Gliclazide MR is a modified-release form of Gliclazide, a sulfonylurea that stimulates insulin secretion from pancreatic beta cells. It has a prolonged effect, providing consistent blood glucose control throughout the day. Gliclazide also improves endothelial function and may help in reducing microvascular complications in diabetics.

Dosage:

  • Starting dose: 30 mg once daily with breakfast

  • May be adjusted up to 120 mg daily based on response

  • Titration should be done in 30 mg increments

  • Dose adjustment required in elderly and renal impairment

Administration:

  • Take once daily with breakfast

  • Do not crush or chew the tablet

  • Maintain a regular meal schedule to avoid hypoglycemia

Interaction:

  • May enhance effects of insulin, metformin, beta-blockers, and anticoagulants

  • Hypoglycemia risk increases with alcohol, sulfonamides, NSAIDs

  • Antagonized by corticosteroids, oral contraceptives, thiazides

Contraindications:

  • Type 1 diabetes
