Indications:
NEPCO CR 82.5 MG is indicated for the secondary prevention of myocardial infarction (heart attack), ischemic stroke, and other thromboembolic events in patients with a history of cardiovascular disease. It may also be used in patients at high risk for such events.
Pharmacology:
NEPCO CR contains Aspirin (acetylsalicylic acid) in a controlled-release form. Aspirin irreversibly inhibits cyclooxygenase-1 (COX-1) enzyme in platelets, thereby reducing thromboxane A2 production. This inhibits platelet aggregation and helps prevent blood clot formation. The controlled-release mechanism ensures a steady release over time for prolonged antiplatelet effect.
Dosage:
The recommended dose is 75–100 mg once daily. NEPCO CR 82.5 MG is typically taken once daily, as directed by a physician. Dose may vary based on the patient's condition and cardiovascular risk.
Administration:
Take with water, preferably after meals to minimize gastric irritation. Swallow whole—do not crush, chew, or break the tablet.
Interaction:
May interact with anticoagulants (e.g., warfarin), NSAIDs, corticosteroids, SSRIs, methotrexate, and alcohol, increasing the risk of bleeding. Concurrent use with other antiplatelet or thrombolytic agents requires caution.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with active peptic ulcer, bleeding disorders, severe hepatic or renal impairment, hypersensitivity to aspirin or NSAIDs, and in children with viral infections (due to Reye’s syndrome risk).
Side Effects:
May include gastrointestinal irritation, nausea, dyspepsia, increased bleeding tendency, and rare allergic reactions (e.g., asthma, rash). Chronic use may cause gastric ulcers or bleeding.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy due to risk of fetal complications. Should be avoided during lactation unless prescribed by a physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with history of peptic ulcer or bleeding disorders.
Avoid alcohol and other blood thinners.
Monitor for signs of gastrointestinal bleeding or unusual bruising.
Not suitable for pain relief or fever in general population at this dose.
Therapeutic Class:
Antiplatelet Agents (Low-Dose Aspirin)
Storage Conditions:
Store in a cool, dry place below 25°C. Protect from moisture and direct light. Keep out of reach of children. Do not use after expiry date.
