Indications:
OMESOFT 1 GM is indicated for the treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), peptic ulcer disease, Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, and other acid-related disorders. It is also used to prevent stress ulcers and manage conditions involving excessive stomach acid production.
Pharmacology:
OMESOFT contains Omeprazole, a proton pump inhibitor (PPI). It works by irreversibly blocking the H+/K+ ATPase enzyme system of the gastric parietal cells, thereby reducing acid secretion in the stomach. The effect lasts up to 24 hours after administration.
Dosage:
The usual adult dose is 20–40 mg once daily, depending on the condition. In severe cases like Zollinger-Ellison syndrome, higher or divided doses may be used. The dose for OMESOFT 1 GM IV injection is generally once daily, based on medical advice.
Administration:
OMESOFT 1 GM is administered intravenously. The lyophilized powder should be reconstituted with a suitable diluent (usually 5 ml of 0.9% sodium chloride) and given as a slow IV injection over 2.5 minutes or as an infusion.
Interaction:
Omeprazole may interact with drugs like warfarin, diazepam, phenytoin, ketoconazole, and clopidogrel. It may reduce the absorption of drugs dependent on gastric pH.
Contraindications:
OMESOFT is contraindicated in patients with known hypersensitivity to omeprazole or any other component of the formulation.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include headache, nausea, abdominal pain, diarrhea, and flatulence. Rarely, it may cause hypersensitivity reactions, hepatic dysfunction, or blood disorders.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Omeprazole can be used during pregnancy if clearly needed and prescribed by a physician. Caution is advised during lactation as it is excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term use may lead to vitamin B12 deficiency, hypomagnesemia, or increased risk of fractures. Use with caution in patients with liver disease. Do not exceed the recommended duration of therapy without medical supervision.
Therapeutic Class:
Proton Pump Inhibitors (PPIs)
Storage Conditions:
Store below 25°C in a dry place, protected from light. Keep out of reach of children. Reconstituted solutions should be used immediately or as advised by the manufacturer.
