Indications:
HPR DS 500 is indicated for gynecological infections, bacterial vaginosis, pelvic inflammatory disease, trichomoniasis, and other anaerobic bacterial infections.
Pharmacology:
HPR DS 500 MG contains Metronidazole, a nitroimidazole derivative with antibacterial and antiprotozoal properties. It inhibits nucleic acid synthesis by disrupting the DNA of microbial cells, leading to cell death in anaerobic organisms.
Dosage:
Typically 500 mg orally twice a day for 7 days or as directed by the physician.
Administration:
Should be taken after meals with a full glass of water to reduce gastrointestinal irritation.
Interaction:
Alcohol must be avoided during and at least 48 hours after therapy.
May interact with warfarin, lithium, and other drugs metabolized by the liver.
Contraindications:
Contraindicated in patients with hypersensitivity to Metronidazole or other nitroimidazole derivatives. Avoid in patients with a history of blood dyscrasias.
Side Effects:
Common: Nausea, metallic taste, headache, dizziness, loss of appetite.
Rare: Seizures, peripheral neuropathy, allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use during the first trimester of pregnancy is generally avoided unless clearly needed. Caution is advised during lactation as Metronidazole is excreted in breast milk.
Precautions & Warnings:
Prolonged use may result in fungal or bacterial superinfection. Caution in patients with CNS diseases or hepatic impairment.
