Pharmacology:
FESTAM Gel contains Diclofenac Diethylamine, a non-steroidal anti-inflammatory drug (NSAID). It works by inhibiting cyclooxygenase (COX) enzymes, which reduces the synthesis of prostaglandins—chemicals responsible for pain, swelling, and inflammation. Being a topical preparation, it directly penetrates the affected area for localized action without significant systemic absorption.
Dosage:
Apply a small amount (2–4 g) to the affected area 3–4 times daily
Dosage may vary depending on the size of the affected area and severity of symptoms
Administration:
For external use only
Apply gently on the skin over the painful area
Do not apply on broken or irritated skin
Wash hands thoroughly after use (unless treating hands)
Interaction:
No significant systemic interactions due to topical use
Avoid using with other topical NSAIDs or corticosteroids on the same area
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to Diclofenac or NSAIDs
Broken, infected, or eczema-affected skin
Patients with a history of asthma, urticaria, or allergic reactions after taking aspirin or NSAIDs
Side Effects:
Mild skin irritation
Redness or rash
Itching or burning sensation
Rare: allergic skin reactions
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during the third trimester of pregnancy
Should be used with caution during breastfeeding; avoid application near the breast area
Precautions & Warnings:
For external use only—do not ingest
Avoid contact with eyes, mucous membranes, or open wounds
Discontinue if skin irritation develops
Do not cover the treated area with airtight dressings unless directed
