Indications:
Used for hypercholesterolemia treatment when single therapy is insufficient. Reduces LDL cholesterol by blocking cholesterol absorption (Ezetimibe) and synthesis (Atorvastatin).
Pharmacology:
Atorvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, decreasing cholesterol synthesis in the liver. Ezetimibe blocks intestinal cholesterol absorption, providing dual action to reduce plasma cholesterol.
Dosage:
Typically, one tablet once daily, with or without food. Dose adjustment depends on patient response.
Administration:
Oral administration once daily, preferably at the same time each day.
Interaction:
Possible interactions with cyclosporine, fibrates, warfarin, and grapefruit juice. Caution advised with other lipid-lowering agents.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to atorvastatin, ezetimibe, active liver disease, pregnancy, and lactation.
Side Effects:
Common: headache, muscle pain, gastrointestinal discomfort. Rare: myopathy, elevated liver enzymes.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Contraindicated in pregnancy and breastfeeding due to potential fetal and infant risks.
Precautions & Warnings:
Monitor liver function and muscle symptoms regularly. Report unexplained muscle pain or weakness immediately.
