Indications:
Treatment of hypercholesterolemia, mixed dyslipidemia, and prevention of cardiovascular disease in at-risk patients.
Pharmacology:
Atorvastatin selectively inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, reducing cholesterol synthesis in the liver, lowering LDL, and increasing HDL cholesterol.
Dosage:
5 mg orally once daily; dose may be increased depending on patient response, up to 80 mg.
Administration:
Oral intake with or without food, preferably in the evening.
Interaction:
Possible interactions with cyclosporine, certain antibiotics, antifungals, fibrates, and grapefruit juice.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity, active liver disease, pregnancy, lactation.
Side Effects:
Muscle pain, gastrointestinal disturbances, headache, rare rhabdomyolysis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Avoid use during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
