Indications:
Treatment of superficial fungal infections such as dermatophytosis, tinea corporis, tinea pedis (athlete's foot), and onychomycosis.
Pharmacology:
Terbinafine inhibits fungal enzyme squalene epoxidase, disrupting fungal cell membrane synthesis and causing fungal cell death.
Dosage:
Typically, 250 mg once daily orally for 2 to 6 weeks depending on infection type.
Administration:
Oral administration with or without food.
Interaction:
May interact with CYP450 metabolized drugs such as rifampin and cimetidine.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to terbinafine or related compounds, liver disease.
Side Effects:
Common: headache, gastrointestinal upset, rash. Rare: hepatotoxicity, taste disturbances.
