Indications:
Treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) to improve urine flow and reduce symptoms.
Pharmacology:
Tamsulosin is an alpha-1 adrenergic receptor antagonist that relaxes smooth muscle in the prostate and bladder neck.
Dosage:
Typically 0.4 mg once daily, taken approximately 30 minutes after the same meal each day.
Administration:
Orally with water, preferably after a meal.
Interaction:
May interact with other alpha-blockers, antihypertensives, and PDE5 inhibitors.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to tamsulosin or other alpha-blockers, severe liver impairment.
Side Effects:
Dizziness, headache, abnormal ejaculation, rhinitis, hypotension.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not applicable (for males).
Precautions & Warnings:
Use cautiously in patients with low blood pressure or during cataract surgery.
