Indications:
Used to improve blood sugar control in adults with type 2 diabetes mellitus, especially when monotherapy is inadequate.
Pharmacology:
Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Empagliflozin inhibits SGLT2 in kidneys, increasing glucose excretion.
Dosage:
Usually one tablet twice daily with meals or as prescribed by physician.
Administration:
Oral administration; swallow tablet with water.
Interaction:
May interact with other antidiabetic drugs, diuretics, and contrast agents.
Contraindications:
Type 1 diabetes, diabetic ketoacidosis, severe renal impairment, hypersensitivity to components.
Side Effects:
Gastrointestinal upset, urinary tract infections, hypoglycemia, dehydration.
