Indications:
Used for treating rheumatoid arthritis, certain cancers (leukemia, lymphoma), and severe psoriasis.
Pharmacology:
Methotrexate is a folic acid antagonist that inhibits dihydrofolate reductase, disrupting DNA synthesis and affecting rapidly dividing cells.
Dosage:
Commonly used in low weekly doses; exact dosage must be determined by a physician based on condition and response.
Administration:
Taken orally with or without food, or as an injectable under medical supervision.
Interaction:
Interacts with NSAIDs, sulfonamides, antibiotics, and folic acid supplements. Careful monitoring required.
