Indications:
Management of type 2 diabetes mellitus with coexisting hyperlipidemia or risk of cardiovascular disease.
Pharmacology:
Metformin decreases hepatic glucose production and improves insulin sensitivity. Rosuvastatin inhibits HMG-CoA reductase, lowering LDL cholesterol and triglycerides.
Dosage:
Typically one tablet daily or as prescribed by the physician, dose may be adjusted based on response.
Administration:
Oral administration, preferably with meals to reduce gastrointestinal discomfort.
Interaction:
May interact with other antidiabetic drugs, statins, and certain medications like cimetidine or diuretics.
Contraindications:
Severe renal or hepatic impairment, hypersensitivity to components, metabolic acidosis, pregnancy.
Side Effects:
Gastrointestinal upset, headache, muscle pain, rare risk of lactic acidosis.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy and breastfeeding.
Precautions & Warnings:
Regular monitoring of blood glucose, liver, and kidney function is advised.
