Indications:
Treatment of scabies, strongyloidiasis, onchocerciasis, and other parasitic infections.
Pharmacology:
Ivermectin acts by binding to glutamate-gated chloride channels in parasites, causing paralysis and death of the parasite.
Dosage:
Usually 6 mg orally as a single dose, repeat if necessary per physician’s advice.
Administration:
Taken orally with water, preferably on an empty stomach.
Interaction:
May interact with warfarin and other antiparasitic drugs; consult physician before use.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to ivermectin, children under 5 years or weighing less than 15 kg, pregnancy (use only if benefits outweigh risks).
Side Effects:
Possible side effects include dizziness, nausea, diarrhea, fatigue, and skin rash.
