Indications:
Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), gastric ulcers, duodenal ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Pharmacology:
Esomeprazole inhibits the proton pump (H+/K+ ATPase) in gastric parietal cells, reducing gastric acid secretion.
Dosage:
Typically, 10-40 mg once daily before meals depending on the condition.
Administration:
Oral administration, preferably 30 minutes before breakfast.
Interaction:
May interact with drugs like clopidogrel, warfarin, and diazepam.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
Side Effects:
Headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness.
