Indications:
Indicated for the treatment of respiratory tract infections, urinary tract infections, gastrointestinal infections, skin and soft tissue infections, and sexually transmitted diseases caused by susceptible organisms.
Pharmacology:
Ofloxacin is a synthetic broad-spectrum fluoroquinolone antibiotic that inhibits bacterial DNA gyrase and topoisomerase IV, enzymes essential for bacterial replication, repair, and transcription.
Dosage:
Typically 200 mg twice daily or as directed by the physician. Dosage may vary based on type and severity of infection.
Administration:
To be taken orally with a glass of water. Can be taken with or without food, but avoid taking with dairy or calcium-rich foods.
Interaction:
May interact with antacids, iron or zinc supplements, theophylline, warfarin, and NSAIDs. Avoid concurrent use with drugs that prolong QT interval.
Contraindications:
Known hypersensitivity to Ofloxacin or other quinolones, epilepsy, or patients with a history of tendon disorders related to fluoroquinolone use.
Side Effects:
Nausea, diarrhea, headache, dizziness, insomnia, rash, and rarely tendon rupture or QT prolongation.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Not recommended during pregnancy or breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary and prescribed by a physician.
Precautions & Warnings:
Use with caution in patients with CNS disorders, renal impairment, or cardiac arrhythmias. Avoid exposure to sunlight or UV light.
