Indications:
Treatment of gastroesophageal reflux disease (GERD), erosive esophagitis, gastric and duodenal ulcers, and Zollinger-Ellison syndrome.
Pharmacology:
Esomeprazole inhibits the gastric proton pump, reducing acid secretion in the stomach and promoting healing of ulcers and esophagitis.
Dosage:
Usually 10-40 mg daily, dose adjusted based on patient condition and severity.
Administration:
Oral suspension; shake well before use. Administer preferably before meals.
Interaction:
May interact with clopidogrel, warfarin, ketoconazole, and other drugs metabolized by CYP enzymes.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to esomeprazole or other proton pump inhibitors.
Side Effects:
Headache, nausea, diarrhea, abdominal pain, dizziness.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Use only if clearly needed; consult healthcare provider.
Precautions & Warnings:
Long-term use may increase risk of bone fractures and infections such as C. difficile.
