Description

• রেজিস্টার্ড চিকিৎসকের পরামর্শ মোতাবেক ঔষধ সেবন করুন

Indications:

  • Type 2 diabetes mellitus (non-insulin dependent diabetes)

  • Used in conjunction with diet and exercise to control blood sugar levels

  • Can be prescribed for patients who do not achieve adequate glycemic control with diet and exercise alone

Pharmacology:

Glimepiride, the active ingredient in Amaryl, is a second-generation sulfonylurea. It works by stimulating the pancreas to release more insulin, which helps to lower blood sugar levels. Additionally, it increases the sensitivity of body tissues to insulin, improving glucose utilization.

Dosage & Administration:

  • The usual starting dose for adults is 1-2 mg daily.

  • The dose may be gradually increased based on the patient's blood sugar levels, up to a maximum of 8 mg per day.

  • It is usually taken with breakfast or the first main meal of the day.

  • Dosage should be adjusted by a healthcare provider depending on blood glucose monitoring.

Interaction:

  • Increased Effect: Alcohol, other antidiabetic agents, or drugs that affect liver enzymes (e.g., azoles, NSAIDs) can enhance the blood-sugar-lowering effect of Amaryl.

  • Decreased Effect: Certain diuretics, corticosteroids, or beta-blockers may reduce its effectiveness.

  • Always inform your doctor of all medications you are taking to prevent harmful interactions.

Contraindications:

  • Hypersensitivity to glimepiride or any component of the medication

  • Type 1 diabetes mellitus (insulin-dependent)

  • Diabetic ketoacidosis

  • Severe liver or kidney dysfunction

  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding (unless prescribed by a doctor)

Side Effects:

    • Hypoglycemia (low blood sugar)

    • Dizziness or headache

    • Weight gain

Pregnancy & Lactation:

  • Lactation: Not recommended for use during breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary, as it can pass into breast milk.
