Pharmacology:
Leveron XR contains venlafaxine, a serotonin-norepinephrine reuptake inhibitor (SNRI).
It works by inhibiting the reuptake of serotonin and norepinephrine, two neurotransmitters that play a key role in regulating mood and anxiety.
The extended-release formulation ensures that the medication is gradually released into the bloodstream, providing sustained effects over time.
Dosage:
The usual starting dose for Leveron XR is 75mg per day, which can be increased based on the patient’s response to treatment, up to a maximum of 375mg per day.
The dosage should be taken once daily, with or without food, at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Dosage adjustments should be made under the supervision of a healthcare provider.
Administration:
Take Leveron XR tablets orally with a full glass of water.
Do not crush, chew, or break the tablets, as this may interfere with the extended-release mechanism.
It is important to take the medication regularly to achieve optimal results.
Interaction:
Leveron XR may interact with other medications, including monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs), other antidepressants, blood thinners, and certain pain medications.
Alcohol may increase the risk of serious side effects, such as drowsiness and dizziness, so it is best to avoid alcohol while using this medication.
Inform your doctor about all the medications you are taking, including herbal supplements.
Contraindications:
Leveron XR should not be used in individuals who are allergic to venlafaxine or any of its components.
It is contraindicated for use with monoamine oxidase inhibitors (MAOIs) or within 14 days of stopping an MAOI.
Caution is required in patients with a history of seizures, heart problems, or high blood pressure.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include nausea, dry mouth, dizziness, sleep disturbances, and increased sweating.
Serious side effects can include suicidal thoughts, high blood pressure, irregular heartbeat, or serotonin syndrome (a potentially life-threatening condition).
Seek immediate medical attention if you experience any severe side effects, including chest pain, seizures, or severe allergic reactions.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Leveron XR should be used during pregnancy only if the potential benefit justifies the potential risk to the fetus (Pregnancy Category C). Consult your healthcare provider before using this medication if you are pregnant or planning to become pregnant.
It is excreted in breast milk, so breastfeeding mothers should consult a doctor before using Leveron XR.
