Indications:
TELFAST 50 ML is primarily used for the treatment of:
Hay fever (Allergic rhinitis): Treats symptoms such as sneezing, runny nose, itchy or watery eyes, and nasal congestion caused by allergens such as pollen, dust, or animal dander.
Chronic idiopathic urticaria (Hives): Reduces itching, redness, and swelling associated with allergic reactions.
Other allergic conditions: Helps in managing other conditions that involve allergic reactions due to histamine release.
TELFAST 50 ML works by blocking the action of histamine, a substance in the body that causes allergic symptoms such as itching, swelling, and congestion.
Pharmacology:
TELFAST 50 ML contains Fexofenadine, a second-generation antihistamine. Fexofenadine selectively blocks H1 histamine receptors, which play a central role in the body’s allergic response. By blocking these receptors, TELFAST reduces the symptoms of sneezing, itching, nasal congestion, and watery eyes caused by allergens. Unlike first-generation antihistamines, fexofenadine is less likely to cause sedation and drowsiness, making it ideal for daytime use.
Dosage:
For adults and children above 12 years: The usual dose is 10 mL (60 mg) once daily.
For seasonal allergic rhinitis (hay fever): Take 10 mL daily for symptom relief.
For chronic idiopathic urticaria (hives): Take 10 mL daily to alleviate itching and swelling.
Administration:
Shake the bottle well before each dose.
Take TELFAST 50 ML syrup orally with or without food.
Measure the dose accurately using the provided measuring cup or spoon.
Do not exceed the recommended dose.
Interaction:
Antacids (containing aluminum or magnesium): These may reduce the absorption of fexofenadine. It is advised to take TELFAST at least 2 hours before or after using an antacid.
Erythromycin and Ketoconazole: These drugs may increase the concentration of fexofenadine in the blood. If using these medications together, monitor closely for potential side effects.
Fruit juices (like grapefruit, orange): These may reduce the absorption of fexofenadine. Avoid taking them at the same time as TELFAST.
Always inform your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, herbal supplements, and vitamins.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to fexofenadine or any of its components.
Severe kidney impairment: Caution should be used, and dosage adjustments may be required.
Pregnancy: TELFAST should only be used during pregnancy if clearly needed and prescribed by a healthcare provider. It is classified as Pregnancy Category C.
Breastfeeding: Fexofenadine is excreted into breast milk in small amounts, so consult your doctor before using TELFAST while breastfeeding.
