Fimoxyclav BID 50ml is used for treating various bacterial infections including respiratory infections, urinary tract infections, skin infections, and infections caused by susceptible bacteria. The combination of amoxicillin and clavulanic acid provides effective treatment by enhancing the antibacterial activity of amoxicillin.
Pharmacology:
Fimoxyclav BID contains two active ingredients:
Amoxicillin: A broad-spectrum penicillin antibiotic that works by inhibiting bacterial cell wall synthesis, leading to bacterial cell death.
Clavulanic Acid: A beta-lactamase inhibitor that protects amoxicillin from degradation by beta-lactamase-producing bacteria, enhancing its antibacterial efficacy.
Dosage:
Adults and Children (over 12 years): The usual dose is 500 mg (equivalent to 5 ml of the solution) every 12 hours. The dosage may vary based on the severity of the infection and the patient's condition.
Children (under 12 years): The dose is typically calculated according to the child’s weight, with a standard range of 20–40 mg/kg body weight per day, divided into two doses.
Administration:
Fimoxyclav BID 50ml is administered intravenously (IV) or intramuscularly (IM) by a healthcare professional.
Before administration, the solution should be reconstituted as per the healthcare provider’s instructions.
The medication should be infused or injected slowly, with the infusion taking around 30 minutes.
Interaction:
Fimoxyclav BID 50ml may interact with other antibiotics, blood thinners such as warfarin, and medications that affect liver enzymes.
Always inform your doctor about all medications you are taking to avoid potential drug interactions.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to amoxicillin, clavulanic acid, or other penicillin antibiotics.
History of severe allergic reactions (anaphylaxis) to penicillin-class antibiotics.
Use with caution in patients with a history of liver dysfunction or jaundice caused by antibiotics.
Side Effects:
