Ertu 5 mg is primarily used to treat high blood pressure (hypertension) and chronic heart failure. It works by relaxing the blood vessels, allowing the heart to pump blood more effectively, thereby lowering blood pressure and reducing the strain on the heart.
Pharmacology:
Ertu 5 mg contains enalapril, an angiotensin-converting enzyme (ACE) inhibitor. Enalapril works by blocking the enzyme that produces angiotensin II, a substance that constricts blood vessels. By inhibiting this enzyme, Ertu helps to relax the blood vessels, lowering blood pressure and improving blood flow to the heart.
Dosage:
Adults: The usual starting dose for high blood pressure is 5 mg once daily. The dose may be increased depending on the response and the doctor's recommendation.
Chronic Heart Failure: The initial dose is typically 2.5 mg once daily, with gradual increases based on patient tolerance.
Renal Impairment: Dose adjustments may be required in patients with kidney disease.
Administration:
Ertu 5 mg should be taken orally, preferably at the same time each day. It can be taken with or without food. The tablet should be swallowed whole with a glass of water.
Interaction:
Ertu may interact with other medications such as diuretics, potassium supplements, and other blood pressure medications. It is important to inform your doctor about all the medications you are currently taking.
Potassium-sparing diuretics and potassium supplements should be used cautiously as they may increase the risk of high potassium levels.
Contraindications:
Hypersensitivity to enalapril or any other ingredients of Ertu.
Patients with a history of angioedema related to previous ACE inhibitor treatment.
Severe kidney impairment.
Pregnancy: Not recommended during pregnancy, especially in the second and third trimesters, due to potential harm to the fetus.
Side Effects:
Common side effects include dizziness, headache, fatigue, and gastrointestinal discomfort.
Serious side effects include allergic reactions such as swelling of the face, lips, or throat, and significant drops in blood pressure.
In rare cases, it may cause liver problems or kidney dysfunction.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Ertu is contraindicated during pregnancy, particularly in the second and third trimesters, as it can cause harm to the fetus.
It is not recommended during breastfeeding unless absolutely necessary. Consult a doctor if you are pregnant or breastfeeding.
Therapeutic Class:
Antihypertensives, ACE Inhibitors
