ORVA 10 MG is primarily indicated for the management of high cholesterol, particularly for reducing low-density lipoprotein (LDL) cholesterol levels. It is also used to prevent cardiovascular diseases, including heart attacks and strokes, by reducing cholesterol levels and improving overall lipid profile.
ORVA 10 MG contains Atorvastatin, which is a statin (HMG-CoA reductase inhibitor). Statins work by inhibiting the enzyme HMG-CoA reductase, which plays a key role in the production of cholesterol in the liver. By blocking this enzyme, Atorvastatin reduces the overall cholesterol levels in the blood, particularly lowering LDL (bad) cholesterol and triglycerides, while modestly increasing HDL (good) cholesterol. This helps to prevent the buildup of plaque in the arteries and reduces the risk of cardiovascular diseases.
The usual starting dose is 10 mg once daily, taken with or without food.
Depending on the patient's response and cholesterol levels, the dose may be adjusted by the doctor, with a typical dose range from 10 mg to 80 mg per day.
The dose should be taken at the same time every day to maintain consistent blood levels of the medication.
ORVA 10 MG should be taken orally, with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
For optimal results, take it at the same time each day.
Regular monitoring of cholesterol levels and liver function is important during treatment.
ORVA 10 MG may interact with several medications, including:
Other cholesterol-lowering medications (e.g., fibrates, niacin), which can increase the risk of muscle problems.
Certain antibiotics, antifungals, or antivirals, which may increase the levels of Atorvastatin in the body and increase the risk of side effects.
Grapefruit or grapefruit juice, which can increase the concentration of Atorvastatin in the blood, leading to potential side effects.
Always inform your healthcare provider about all other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs and herbal supplements.
ORVA 10 MG is contraindicated in patients who:
Are allergic to Atorvastatin or any of its ingredients.
Have active liver disease or unexplained persistent elevations in liver enzymes.
Are pregnant or breastfeeding, as statins can harm the fetus or infant.
Have a history of muscle problems related to the use of statins or other medications.
Common side effects of ORVA 10 MG include:
Muscle pain, tenderness, or weakness.
Headache, dizziness, or fatigue.
Gastrointestinal symptoms such as nausea, diarrhea, or constipation.
Serious side effects may include:
Severe muscle problems (rhabdomyolysis), liver damage, or allergic reactions (rash, swelling).
Unexplained dark urine or yellowing of the skin/eyes (signs of liver problems).
If you experience any of these serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention.
Pregnancy: ORVA 10 MG should not be used during pregnancy. Statins can harm the developing fetus and are classified as Category X drugs. Women who are pregnant or planning to become pregnant should not take this medication.
Lactation: Atorvastatin is excreted in breast milk, and it is not recommended for use during breastfeeding. Consult your healthcare provider before using this medication if you are breastfeeding.
