Indications:
TRITACE 5 MG is prescribed for:
Hypertension (High Blood Pressure): Helps in lowering high blood pressure, reducing the risk of stroke, heart attack, and kidney issues.
Heart Failure: Reduces the strain on the heart by relaxing blood vessels and making it easier for the heart to pump blood, improving overall heart function.
Post-Myocardial Infarction (Heart Attack): Aids in improving survival rates and reducing complications in patients recovering from a heart attack.
As an ACE inhibitor, TRITACE works by blocking the enzyme Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE), which narrows blood vessels. By inhibiting this enzyme, TRITACE helps in dilating blood vessels, thus lowering blood pressure and making it easier for the heart to pump blood.
Pharmacology:
TRITACE 5 MG contains Ramipril, which is an ACE inhibitor. By inhibiting the ACE enzyme, it prevents the conversion of angiotensin I to angiotensin II, a hormone that causes blood vessels to constrict. This leads to the relaxation and widening of the blood vessels, ultimately reducing blood pressure. It also helps the heart to pump more efficiently and reduces the risk of heart failure progression.
Dosage:
For Hypertension (High Blood Pressure):
The typical starting dose is 5 mg once daily, which may be adjusted based on the patient's response. The dose can be increased to a maximum of 10 mg per day.
For Heart Failure:
The usual dose is 5 mg once daily. Dose adjustments are made based on the patient's condition and tolerance.
For Post-Heart Attack (Myocardial Infarction):
The typical dose is 5 mg once daily, but it may be adjusted based on the doctor’s recommendations.
Always follow your doctor’s instructions regarding the dosage.
Administration:
Take TRITACE 5 MG orally with or without food.
Swallow the tablet whole with a glass of water. Do not crush or chew the tablet.
Take the medication at the same time each day to maintain consistent blood levels.
Interaction:
Diuretics: When used with diuretics, TRITACE can cause an enhanced blood pressure-lowering effect, leading to dizziness, especially when standing up.
Potassium Supplements or Potassium-Sparing Diuretics: Use with caution as it can cause hyperkalemia (high potassium levels).
NSAIDs (Non-Steroidal Anti-Inflammatory Drugs): Can reduce the effectiveness of TRITACE and increase the risk of kidney damage.
Always inform your healthcare provider about any other medications you are taking, including over-the-counter drugs, vitamins, and herbal supplements.
Contraindications:
Allergic reactions to Ramipril or any of its components.
History of angioedema (swelling of the deeper skin tissues) caused by ACE inhibitors.
Severe kidney disease or liver disease.
Pregnancy: Should not be used during pregnancy, especially during the second and third trimesters, as it may harm the fetus.
Side Effects:
Common side effects may include:
Dizziness or lightheadedness, especially when standing up
Fatigue
Cough (a known side effect of ACE inhibitors)
Nausea or upset stomach
Serious side effects may include:
Angioedema (swelling of the face, lips, tongue, or throat)
Severe hypotension (low blood pressure)
Kidney issues: Decreased urine output, swelling of the legs, unexplained weight gain
Hyperkalemia (high potassium levels)
If you experience any of the serious side effects, seek immediate medical attention.
Pregnancy & Lactation:
Pregnancy: TRITACE 5 MG should not be used during pregnancy, particularly during the second and third trimesters, as it can harm the fetus.
Lactation: It is not recommended for use during breastfeeding as it passes into breast milk in small amounts, which may affect the baby.
Therapeutic Class:
Angiotensin-Converting Enzyme (ACE) Inhibitors.
